My Process & FAQs

Though every project has its specific process, this is the typical path we’ll take when we work together.

Project request

You’ll indicate your interest in hiring me by filling out this project request form. You’ll receive a response from me within one business day to confirm the scope of your project, your timeline, and your goals. If you have additional questions, we can schedule a 15-minute phone consultation. Otherwise, we’ll move on to the next step.

Securing your spot and project start

Once you select a service, I’ll send you a contract that contains the project timeline, project scope, and terms and conditions for you to e-sign. Your 50% deposit is due at this time to hold your spot. When the contract is signed and the deposit paid, we’ll schedule your discovery session.

Next, you’ll fill out the discovery workbook. Plan to spend about 60-90 minutes responding to the questions. This is also your opportunity to send me any relevant background material, including website links, design notes, and copy you’ve already written. Your questionnaire answers and background materials are due at least 24 hours in advance of your discovery session.

Discovery session

In this 60-120 minute Skype conversation, we’ll clarify your unique selling proposition, and draw out the most compelling aspects of your brand. I’ll be asking you questions to hone the direction and tone of the project copy.

Copy deck outline and first draft

We’ll start with an outline of your website content, which you’ll review for accuracy, Next, you’ll receive a draft of the copy I’ve written for the project (known as a “copy deck”) in a Microsoft Word document. This is the first step towards solidifying content that you’re happy with.

Feedback

Your feedback is an important part of my writing process. Edits are typically due within five business days of draft delivery. This is where you’ll make any factual changes and comments about the tone or direction of the copy using the track changes feature. If we need to get on the phone again to clarify some aspect of the project during this phase, I’m happy to do it.

Final delivery and project wrap-up

You’ll receive a final draft of your copy that is ready for immediate upload to your website or creative project. At this time, I’ll send an invoice for the balance of your project fee. I’ll also send you a final email to officially close our project; it will include a link to provide feedback and other secret extras.

Ready to get started?

You’ve got questions. I’ve got answers.

How long will my project take?

That depends on the scope of work and your deadline. Typically, an about page service takes three weeks and my website package takes four to six weeks. Also, for the project you needed done like, yesterday, I do offer a 20% rush fee.

How do you determine your pricing?

My copywriting services are billed at a project rate. This allows us to get the content exactly right instead of nitpicking over hours worked (which means no billing surprises for you). I’m not the cheapest copywriter on the block (my clients value quality over price), though my fees are competitive with the professional copywriting industry.

I just looked at another copywriter's website and she/he is cheaper than you.

I’m not surprised. I charge based on the results I get for my clients (and what I’m worth). And that benefits you, because I’ll be thinking about your branding not just when I’m writing your copy, but also in the middle of the night when I wake up thinking about if I’m doing all I can to promote your work. I take pride in the results you’ll get and I make myself indispensable to you. You won’t get that with my competition, and I’m okay with that because I trust that you’ll follow your intuition and your specific priorities.

How do your payment system work?

To reserve your spot, you’ll pay a 50% deposit. The 50% balance is due upon delivery of the final version of your project.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept personal checks and electronic payments via eCheck, PayPal and Google Checkout, and all major credit cards.

Will I get the opportunity to provide feedback?

Yes – this is an important part of my process. Every project includes two iterative revisions, which means you’ll get two opportunities to review the material and provide your feedback. (Iterative refers to reviewing the current version as opposed to starting from scratch with a new concept.)

Do you have a guarantee?

Your success is my success. Within the scope of work for our project, I’m committed to making sure you’re satisfied with the final copy.
